 Education in AAC
What funding opportunities are available for master's-level students?
There are a number of funding opportunities available to graduate students at Penn State who wish
to develop their competencies in AAC:
- Traineeships
- Research assistantships
Traineeships are designed to improve services and outcomes for children with severe communication
disabilities who require AAC, especially those from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
Traineeships support Masters students in speech language pathology (full tuition and monthly
stipend) who are committed to developing not only the standard competencies in speech language
pathology, but also specialized competencies to provide high quality AAC services to children
with severe communication disabilities within the school system.
For research assistantships, students are afforded a hands-on experience in research within the
field of AAC. Responsibilities within the research assistantships vary depending on the specific
assignment, but may include reviewing the research data, collecting data, and helping with data
analysis and dissemination. Support is provided (full tuition and monthly pay) for research
assistants working 20 hours per week on an assigned research project.
