Kathryn Drager, Ph.D., CCC-SLP
Kathy is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Disorders at The Pennsylvania
State University. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses, including Introduction to
Augmentative and Alternative Communication. Her research interests include augmentative and
alternative communication, listeners' comprehension of synthetic speech, and assessment and
intervention for individuals with severe disabilities with challenging behaviors.

Thomas Frank, Ph.D. CCC-A
Tom is a Professor in the Department of Communication Disorders at The Pennsylvania State
University. He teaches undergraduate courses in audiology and aural rehabilitation. His research
interests in AAC include the intelligibility of various synthesized voices in different levels of
background noise, and listeners' perceptions of the quality of synthesized voices.

Katherine Hustad, Ph.D. CCC-SLP
Katie is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Disorders at The Pennsylvania
State University. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses, including Neuromotor Disorders
of Speech. Her primary areas of research interest include: integration of AAC with natural speech,
interventions for improving speech intelligibility in individuals with chronic dysarthria, and
variables that influence intelligibility / comprehensibility. Her clinical work has focused on AAC
applications for children and adults with neurogenic and / or neuromotor disorders.

Janice Light, Ph.D.
Janice is a Professor in the Department of Communication Disorders at The Pennsylvania State
University. She teaches graduate courses and seminars in augmentative and alternative communication.
Her research interests include augmentative and alternative communication for individuals with
severe speech impairments. Specifically, she is interested in the development of communicative
competence, as well as the development of language and literacy skills.

David McNaughton, Ph.D.
David is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational and School Psychology and Special
Education at The Pennsylvania State University. He teaches classes on observation and communication
skills, and his current research interests include the development of vocational opportunities for
individuals with severe disabilities, and the effective use of web-based instructional materials.

Barbara Roberts, M.S. CCC-SLP
Barb is an Instructor in the Department of Communication Disorders at The Pennsylvania State
University and received her degree from Penn State. She is a Clinic Supervisor for the Penn State
Speech and Hearing Clinic, which provides comprehensive assessment and intervention for children
and adults with speech, language, and hearing disabilities, including those with severe
