 AAC Laboratory at Penn State
What is the purpose of the AAC Lab?
- The AAC lab serves as a teaching and learning resource for students in the Department of
Communication Disorders. Students are able to gain hands-on experience with basic operation and
customization of communication technologies in conjunction with AAC classes, independent studies,
and clinical assignments.
- The AAC lab serves as a resource center for the speech and hearing clinic. Equipment and
other clinical materials are available for in-house and off-site client assessment and
intervention sessions. On occasion, equipment is loaned to clients on a short-term basis as part
of the assessment process.
- The AAC lab functions as a community resource for individuals with disabilities and their
support personnel. Tours of the lab and overviews of equipment are available by appointment.
