Who uses AAC?

Individuals who use AAC include people of all ages - toddlers, preschoolers, school-aged children, adolescents, young adults and older individuals. Some individuals who use AAC were born with disabilities such as cerebral palsy, autism, mental retardation, or developmental apraxia. Others have acquired disabilities that resulted from traumatic brain injuries, strokes, or spinal cord injuries. Still others have degenerative neurological disorders such as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease), muscular dystrophy or multiple sclerosis.
